If you have a 64-bit edition of Windows,  Transactor 6 will not install directly, please ask your IT support technician to reconfigure the PC with "32-bit Windows" or "Windows XP Mode".

Version 6 of Transactor does not run on 64-bit editions of Windows, however version 7 will be fully compatible. There are a number of work-arounds highlighted below. If you are not sure which version of Windows you are running, you can check by following the instructions in the article What version of Windows do I have?

• Some PC manufacturers provide their computers with the ability to install a 'fresh' empty copy of Windows in different versions: this may be either the 32-bit or 64-bit edition of Windows, or a complete downgrade to Windows XP. Check either with your supplier or an IT technician.

• If you have Windows 7 Professional, Enterprise or Ultimate you can install a free piece of software callled "Microsoft XP Mode with Virtual PC" which will allow you to run a virtual Windows XP computer within a box on your screen. Transactor can then be installed on this 'Windows in a box'. XP Mode will not run on Windows 7 Home Premium/Basic or Starter editions.

• If you have Windows 7 Home Premium/Basic or Windows Vista, and access to an installation CD and license key from an old and unused 32-bit Windows computer (such as Windows XP), you can try using this guide to allow you to run 32-bit Windows within a box on your screen. We are only able to provide limited technical support for configuring this option and thoroughly recommend you get an IT engineer to set this up for you.

• You can install Transactor on a different machine, and then use a remote access solution to allow you to control that computer from your 64-bit one. Please see the article Working remotely with Transactor

• You may find it convenient to install Transactor on an older, lower specification machine for the time-being - until Transactor v7 is available.

You may need the assistance of an IT technician for all of the work-arounds listed above.

Transactor 7 will be fully compatible with Windows 7, 32 and 64 bit (see When will Transactor 7 be released?) however there is no need to wait to purchase version 6 as purchases after 1st Aug 2011 include a free upgrade to Transactor 7.

• Note that Windows XP Mode with Virtual PC requires Windows 7 Professional, Enterprise or Ultimate edition. If you are running Windows 7 Home Premium or Starter editions, then you will need to upgrade to Professional first before you can successfully install Windows XP mode.
• On some PCs you may need to enable Hardware Assisted Virtualisation in the BIOS:  http://www.microsoft.com/windows/virtual-pc/support/configure-bios.aspx
• When installing Windows XP Mode with Virtual PC ensure you follow all the steps 1, 2 and 3 on the Microsoft site.
